The wandering mind is an unhappy mind. When we are lost in thought, we lose touch with the aliveness and awareness that is always here. We leave home. The Buddha in his instructions on the 1st foundation of mindfulness, invited us to ignore the mind to start with. To place our attention on a anchor, like the breath or sound or the physical contact of our bodies. And train the mind in the practice of "coming back" from distractions with a flavor of kindness, and friendliness. And freedom arises as we realize we have agency, that we get to choose what we pay attention to in any given moment. "Ten thousand flowers in spring, the moon in autumn, a cool breeze in the summer, snow in winter. If your mind isn't clouded by unnecessary things, this is the best season of your life." ~Wu Men Hui-k'ai
